Minutes of Meeting
August 2, 2011
President Yvonne called the meeting to order.
Rita brought a guest, Vicky M.
Treasurer Doris called roll.
Minutes had been read online. Myrlene motioned to accept. Mary E. seconded. Minutes accepted.
Service Project Chairperson Auline said no other projects scheduled for the year. Jan said that the presentation to the parents of the boy killed in Afghanistan will be this Saturday at 11 am. The parents are the Wildes and the address is 46243 Milton Road, Hammond. If anyone can attend, please do so.
Sunshine Chairperson Debbie sent four thank you cards and one birthday card.
Secret Pal Chairperson Mary E. read the birthdays for August, September and October.
Bus Trip Chairperson Myrlene said that Ann will send the packet in the next ten days. Doris will mail the money to Calco to pay for the bus. She called Tamara at the hotel and found out they will not raise our room rate. Myrlene made a motion to get a gift certificate from Pappa’s for Tamara and her husband. Pat Z. seconded. Motion passed. Pappa’s is set for us for Saturday night. Bus is full.
Retreat Chairperson Pat Z. asked that you get the money and registration form to her by the September meeting.
Danette talked about the areas she needs help at the Quilt Expo. Ro, Ginger McLin, Yvonne, Rita, and Susan will all help on Friday. Rita will ask Dave to help.
Linda P. said she will be in charge of the Southern Samplers quilt entries again. Please bring each quilt in its own plastic bag with your name on the outside of the bag. You can bring them to the Community Center on Friday between 2 pm and 7 pm. Or can bring them to Doris at Drake and Beckler at 154 W. Pine Street, Ponchatoula, on any day before the Expo.
Jan and Myrlene will bring a tent for the Expo. Sheryl and Pat Z. will bring wagons, and Myrlene will bring a flatbed rolling cart to the Expo. All will be used to haul quilts to be hung outdoors.
Yvonne made a motion to reimburse Jewel $75 for the doll she made as a gift for our sister guild in Krotz Springs. Susan seconded. Motion passed.
Rita talked about the quilt display at the library in Livingston. You may see it for the next two months.
Meeting Adjourned.
Show and Tell. Mary E. and Pat Z. showed two quilts using the same charm squares. Pat Z. also showed a quilt with log cabin water colors, a rose and black quilt with a humility block, and a fast four point star in thirties fabric.
Sheryl showed an aquarium bowl quilt with fish quilting and a vintage feedsack memory quilt called Chantilly Lace.
Ginger McLin showed a Saints quilt.
Vicky showed an orange slice quilt in red and yellows.
JoPat showed a pillow and a reversible quilt with Saints on one side and LSU on the other side.
Rhoda showed a baby one piece and socks that she dyed in a hand dyed class.
Vanessa showed three quilts, one of which was the tumbling nine patch quilt that was the Krotz Springs raffle quilt. Someone else won it but gave it to her.
Marie C. showed a round robin challenge quilt.
Sew This. Danette showed a new way to sew the Dresden Plate block from a pattern by Anelie Belden.
